Other Info:
This former cinder track opened in May 1891 and was inside a concrete cycling track. World walking records were set here on 20th May 1911 in the same 25 mile race by Harold Ross (intermediate 15 miles and 2 hours splits) and by Samuel Schofield for the full distance. The 1934 WAAA champs were held here. The running track was grassed over in 1980 but the cycling track still exists today and is 450m in length and is the only one left in London. It was used for the cycling events in the 1948 Olympics.
