Other Info:
This cinder track was in a park called the "King George V Playing fields" which were opened by the Queen around 1955. The track was on the lower level with a football field in the middle and on the upper level two football fields. However, drainage was always a problem on the lower level as it was below the local water table and the park was never sufficiently maintained. During the 1980s the park was rearranged as one large piece of grass with the running track totally done away with. The changing facilities were in the Wilson Pavilion which is still used for this purpose and is in fact the only thing left from the original park. There are some pictures of the present day location of the track on Whitburn on the Web.
