Other Info:
This cinder track was situated in Wembley Park when it was actually a park just north of what was later to become Wembley Stadium. The track is shown on an 1896 OS map and is much longer than standard, being about 775 yards. By the 1920 map the track had been replaced by a golf course which itself went in 1922 when work on building Wembley Stadium started. There is a picture in Athletics by H.H. Griffin of a walking race at Wembley Park in which W.J. Sturgess set a world record of 13:33 on 22nd June 1896.
