Trevor Delaney's Rugby League Grounds book states that the ground had "cycling and running tracks" in 1908. The ground still exists as a rugby ground complete with pitch railings that are old tram rails but there is no sign of the tracks although the ground is oval shaped. The official name is "The Athletic Ground", Tonypandy, and was home to Mid Rhondda Social & Athletic Club, who played Rugby League 1908/09 before switching to football in 1909, playing in the English Southern League, and being called Mid Rhondda FC. There used to be a stand and the footholdings of this can still be seen. Speedway has also been staged here, probably early post WW2.
