Other Info:
The track was laid in 1885 and was mainly for the sport of cycling, but running events were incorporated into the annual sports day programme. It was 360 yards in circumference and 18 feet wide. The Comet newspaper of 29th August 1885 said "In lieu of an ordinary thoroughfare on which to exhibit the skill of its members, by the concession of the royal court, a permament track has been formed on the South Pier Platform on the harbour works". The GBTC annual sports were held here known as "Castle Emplacement", from 1885-1887 after which the event moved to a new cinder track at the Elizabeth College Cricket Field. The site of the track is now the model yacht pond.
