Other Info:
This track belonged to Hampshire County Council and was used for league meetings prior to the one at Southampton Sports Centre becoming synthetic in 1976 after which it fell into disuse. It has been grassed over although the course of it is still detectable and the low perimeter barrier along the home straight is still there. In Jan 2000, a small section of the curb was still visible near the start but by summer 2001 this had disappeared. In the early 1970s Southampton Rugby Club, Cricket Club and Athletics Club formed the Southampton Sports Club and the clubhouse at the site was built. By 1995 only the Rugby Club remained and the council leased the site to them in return for maintaining it. The rugby club use the infield of the track as one of their pitches and the track is on open grass playing fields in the vicinity of Redbridge with many other rugby and football pitches.
