This cinder track was replaced by all-weather football pitches in about 1996. It was sometimes used for training by Vale Royal AC but had no field-event facilities. It was on the grounds of Sir John Deane's College and bordered onto the Weaver Navigation river. The college is a Sixth Form College and opened in 1978. Prior to this it was Sir John Deane's Grammar School which was founded in 1557.
