Other Info:
The track was used for meetings at least until the early 1970s and a sub four minute mile race, won by Alan Simpson in 3:58.1, was held here on 26th Aug 1967. The outline of the track is still visible but the curbs have been removed and the surface grassed over. The track was originally 440y but it is unclear whether it was ever converted to 400m although 100m races were staged here in 1970. The track was within the British Timken works site but the factory closed in 2003 and the whole site was sold off. In 2000, the infield was a well maintained grass football pitch and served by four substantial floodlight pylons. It is not known whether the pitch will be retained.
