Other Info:
This track was believed to have been in existence from the 1930s until at least the 1960s and was the University of Manchester's track prior to them acquiring, in the early 1960s, the adjacent Fallowfield or Harris Stadium which also had a running track. Somewhat confusingly the latter track was sometimes referred to as the Firs Stadium as the whole area was known as The Firs and was the university's playing fields. The Firs still exist today although it is now called the Firs Athletic Ground. The proper Firs Track was on Moseley Road in the area east of Whitworth Lane and south of the location of the Harris Stadium which is now Whitworth Halls of Residence. The location of track now seems to be a football and lacrosse ground on the Firs Athletic Ground.
