A cinder track in Loughton owned by British Rail is listed in the 1962 AW list of tracks. However the track was actually a temporary grass one and was redefined each summer. It was situated about 300m from Loughton underground station and was replaced by housing in about the mid 1980s. The ground was called "The Railway Ground" because it was a sports ground of the London & North Eastern Railway, including football/cricket pitches, bowling green & tennis courts. There was no jump pit, although a nearby school one was used by Loughton AC. The shape (like the length - originally 440 yards and then 400 metres) was variable and the track area was by no means horizontal.
