Other Info:
There was a short (maybe 80m) partially covered synthetic straight at the Westway Sports Centre which is underneath the interchange between the Westway (A40(M)) and the West Cross Route (M41) in West London. The track is thought to have existed since at least the late 1980s but was lost in late 2000, when a £10 million year-long redevelopment of the Sports Centre started with Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd. as the main contractor. This will provide an indoor climbing area by September 2001 in addition to the four indoor tennis courts and astroturf pitch with a small covered stand which are already there. An aerial photo from 1999 shows what looks to be a synthetic LJ/TJ runway just north of the old small all-weather pitch which is to be the location of the indoor climbing area. The track was thought to be adjacent to this and next to one of the outdoor climbing walls which existed before the redevelopment but is to be moved slightly. The Sports Centre is often used as a film location and there are some pictures of the facility on a website about such sites. North Kensington Amenity Trust own and manage the facilities here. The Sports Centre has its own website at www.westwaysportscentre.com.
