Other Info:
The track was originally cinder and opened in June 1952. It is believed to have been upgraded to synthetic in the mid 1980s but no meetings have ever been staged on the synthetic track mainly because the infield is an astroturf football/hockey pitch and so long throws are not possible within the stadium. There is a DT/HT cage and a JT runway in an adjacent field but the HT circle surface needs to be repaired and the cage has some holes in it. The SP sector is noticeably uphill. The stadium and track are quite run down. The track surface is fairly worn although it is usable and the stadium suffered an arson attack in 1999 and part of it is boarded up. The track closed in August 2004 for refurbishment and it is believed will reopen in early 2006 as a 7 lane track with an 8 lane home straight.
