Other Info:
This was a cinder track inside a cycle velodrome and was in existence by at least 1914. From the depiction on an old OS map, it seems to have been somewhat longer than 440y - perhaps around 520 yards. There was a grandstand half way down the home straight opposite Memorial Avenue in the position where there is now a modern pavilion. Memorial Recreation Ground still exists but the area of the tracks is now grass pitches. At the northern end of where the track was and near the railway, there are some shallow banks which might indicate the former track perimeter. The ground was sometimes referred to as being in Canning Town.
