The track was on the grounds of Hillfort Hey Grammar School and opened at the same time as the school in September 1956. The school later became a comprehensive and is believed to have closed in about the late 1980s. The track hosted the South Liverpool School Championships in the early 1970s and had metric distance events but the track was not believed to have ever been converted from an imperial length. The track and school have been replaced by housing and were on the land where Stowe Close is now.
