Other Info:
The original track here was built during the winter of 1911-12. Arena magazine for March 1912, states "A new parade ground on gravel with an excellent running track round it has been made on the site of Mr. Kemp's (Moreton's) house football ground." Another source, "Fifty Years of Sport at Oxford, Cambridge and the great Public Schools" (1923) states: "1912. The sports were first held on the new running track in the football field." This track was thought to be about 300y. A 1979 OS map shows the track as being of this size and Stan Greenberg remembers running on a track in Harrow of these dimensions in the late 1940s. Until 2004, the track was a cinder 440y with 4 lanes all round and 6 lanes on the straight which would suggest the track was extended some time before 1979. It was in good condition although the infield was used as a car park. In late 2004 the track was upgraded to synthetic although as of Sep 2004 there were no lane markings. The adjacent Harrow School Sports Centre was opened by Sebastian Coe on 2nd May 1985.
