Other Info:
The track was originally the home of Ponders End AC which formed in 1922. It is thought to have been built soon after and was 440y in length. Albert Cooper set a world record of 12:38.2 for the 3000 Walk here on 20 Jul 1935. The track is believed to have been used as a 6 lane track with lanes narrower than the 4 ft recommended although the width of the home straight seems to have been 6 proper lanes. The rest of the track seems to have been about 4 to 5 lanes wide. The track has now been completely grassed over although the position of track is fairly easy to see from changes in ground level and grass texture. The infield is now a football pitch. There is an old sign by the track which says: Urban District Council of Enfield Notice - The portion of the park enclosed within the boundary fences and laid down as a running track is set apart for that purpose. The central grass area is set apart for the same purpose. Byelaw No. 13
