Other Info:
Southern League matches were held here in the 1970s. The track was in a field which, although was owned by the MOD, is now a public park with the track having been grassed over. This must have happened by 2011 as was no sign of it then although was mentioned in this article and a later one which suggested plans for a formal football pitch with a pavilion had been shelved. On an earlier visit in 1999, it was still there but in very poor condition and badly overgrown with most of lane 1 being grass which had overgrown from the football pitch in the infield. The home straight was actually about 7.5 standard lanes wide and the track was believed to have been 440 yards and never converted to 400 metres.
