Other Info:
The track was built for the opening of Bristol Polytechnic (now University of the West of England) in 1968/9 and was a full 400m track situated on a Redgra area which also had 2 hockey pitches. It was laid by the LEA and was one of the largest floodlit 'all-weather' areas of its kind in the country at the time. Unfortunately it was laid absolutely flat and with the wrong material and so was often flooded. The track was replaced in 1992 by a floodlit artificial pitch and a massive car park. The new pitch is sited over one of the bends and then takes up previously unused land.
