Other Info:
This was originally a redgra track and was built by an old schoolmaster in the 1950s. It was in excellent condition and was actually about 6.5 lanes width but only 6 lanes were marked out and was never converted from 440 yards. The track was upgraded to synthetic in 2012 and opened by Fatima Whitbread. It is set in a beautifully maintained grass sports ground. The school is located near to the track at Ingrave Road, BRENTWOOD, CM15 8AS. Dorothy Odam set a world high jump record at Brentwood School Playing Fields on 29th May 1939 in the Southern Counties championships presumably when there was only a grass track here. Sophie Elliott-Lynn also set world high jump record at Brentwood on 6th Aug 1923 although the performance is listed as doubtful and it is not known whether this mark was recorded here as well. In 1995 there were plans drawn up to build a synthetic track in Brentwood at the Brentwood Centre on Doddinghurst Road but these fell through.
