Other Info:
Salford Stadium was situated in Salford Park and comprised of a redgra running track surrounded by a 403m tarmac cycle velodrome with banked ends hence why the running track was the odd size of 397y (approximately 363m). The running track existed before the cycle one and on 11th July 1951 the combined cycle and running track was opened as Salford Stadium as a contribution to the Festival of Britain. The running track had 6 lanes but was later reduced to 5. There used to be uncovered terracing around most of the track, uncovered benches with seating for about 100, floodlights down the back straight and some buildings adjacent to the track. Lozells Harriers were the last athletics club to be based here. They merged with Small Heath who subsequently merged with Solihull. Both tracks were in fairly good condition up until they and all the stadium buildings were demolished in April 2000 to make way for 5-a-side football pitches but the running track had not been used seriously for some time. The infield was a well maintained grass pitch although prior to the demise of the tracks did not seem to be used for anything.
