The track opened in 1929 and was the home of Birchfield Harriers until 1978 when they moved to the Birmingham Alexander Stadium. The track then fell into disuse and after lying derelict for a while become a greyhound racing track in 1989. There was another stadium in Perry Barr only about 400 yards away which was used for greyhound racing and speedway which opened in April 1928 and closed in 1984 and is now the One Stop shopping centre.
