Other Info:
The site of this old cinder track is now a heavily overgrown, derelict field next to the Stirling Corner roundabout with the A1 and A411. The field was formerly the Stirling Corner Sports Ground and contained the Memorial Sports Centre and the derelict sports centre building is still there. The track was immediately north of the service station on the roundabout with the straights parallel to the A1. It is still shown as an oval on the A-Z and OS Explorer maps with the pavilion marked as Memorial Sports Centre. According to the OS map there was a bank to the outside of the straight furthest from the A1 (probably the home straight) and this banking is the only visible evidence that there was ever a track here. The ground was believed to have been owned by the Metropolitan Police and was also referred to as Finsbury as it is listed as this in the AW 1962 list of cinder tracks and also on an approximately 1960s map of the area. The track must have been used until at least the 1970s as Southern League matches were held here in this period.
